The quick answer is NO!
The government wants you to think that this Medicaid renewal application is a simple thing, and just a formality. DON'T FALL FOR IT! The truth is that a renewal application is reviewed with the same scrutiny as a brand-new application!
The MassHealth Medicaid renewal application requires the same time and care as the original application did. MassHealth can (and will) require all banking and other documents, just like with the original application. The level of difficulty is the same, and they will disqualify you from the program if they can.
The system is trying to cut costs. A renewal application is an opportunity for MassHealth to disqualify applicants for benefits. In the past, approved applicants were generally assumed to remain qualified. MassHealth always had the right to demand a renewal application but rarely used it. This is a NEW tactic designed to disqualify you! Right now MassHealth won't even let you download the application from their website. They are doing everything they can to get individuals disqualified. Do not let this happen to you or your loved ones.
If you are worried that a renewal application will be expensive if you hire a lawyer, keep in mind it will not be nearly as expensive as being disqualified from the program and being forced to pay $12,000-$15,000 per month for nursing home care.
