Ozzy Osbourne Lived Loud, But He Didn’t Die Careless.
Ozzy Osbourne is gone.
Today, the world said goodbye to a legend. Ozzy Osbourne, the voice of Black Sabbath, the wild child of rock and roll, has died at 76.
From biting the head off a bat to being banned from entire cities, he lived like there were no rules, like the chaos would never end. But here’s the surprising part: when it came to his death, Ozzy had a plan. You’d think the man who built his legacy on rebellion wouldn’t be the type to sit down with lawyers, go through legal documents and get his estate plan in order. But he did.
He made sure his family, his music, and even his name were protected. He took control of what would happen after he was gone. (Meanwhile, most of us haven’t even made a will…)
Yes, Ozzy was rich. According to Economic Times, his estate is worth more than $200 million. But what really stands out isn’t how much he had, it’s how seriously he took it. Sharon, his wife, said it years ago at an interview with iHeart: “I don't want someone that never met my husband owning his name and likeness, and selling T-shirts everywhere and whatever. No, it stays in the Osbourne family. And I just know that my husband's body of work, that he's written, and kept us all in the lifestyle that we love, goes to my children.”
They planned ahead. Not just for money, but for control. He and Sharon made sure that when Ozzy died, his name, his music, and his story wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands. They didn’t want some stranger, or worse, a big corporation, profiting off Ozzy’s image. It’s weird to think about, but this man who spent decades surrounded by madness chose clarity when it mattered most. And honestly? That’s more rock and roll than anything he ever did on stage.
If the ‘Prince of Darkness’ can plan ahead… what’s stopping us?
Think about that for a second. The guy who got kicked out of his own band (for being too wild) made a plan for the end of his life. But most of us? Don’t have a trust, have no idea who would take care of our kids or house, or haven’t talked to anyone about what we’d want. Spoiler alert: You don’t have to be a multi-million-dollar rockstar to do the same.
If you have:
- A family
- A house or savings
- A business
- A favorite niece you want to take care of
- A dog you love more than some people you know...
Then you have a reason to plan, because if you don’t make the decisions, the court will. And that gets ugly.
What Ozzy got right:
- He chose who would handle his legacy
- He protected his money, music, and name
- He didn’t wait until things got worse
- He made sure his family wouldn’t be left with a mess
That’s not just smart. That’s love, people!!
We tell ourselves we’ll do it after the next vacation, or when the kids are older, or once we “figure things out.” Meanwhile, life keeps moving, and nothing gets done.
So, if the guy who once snorted ants off the ground can take estate planning seriously, what’s stopping you? You don’t want to wait for the unexpected to happen to get your estate plan in order. You just need the desire to protect the people and things you care about, while you still can. We can help with that part.
